The Kenya Highways Authority has advised motorists to exercise caution while approaching Rongai junction along Kambi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine Road.

In a public notice Tuesday evening, KeNHA Director Kung’u Ndung’u said Rongai River has burst its banks leading to overtopping of the junction, posing a possible risk to road users.

“The Authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this section of the road in the interest of their safety. Members of the public are advised to be patient until the water subsides,” he said.

The section of the road is the latest to be affected across the country as floods continue to wreak havoc following weeks of torrential rains.

On Sunday, residents of Nyando were on the receiving end after River Nyando broke its banks and unleashed torrents of water into villages, displacing tens of households.

The water led to the overtopping of River Nyando Bridge along the Ahero-Kisumu Road affecting normal traffic flow for hours.

The Kenya Red Cross combined forces with the County Government of Kisumu and the Kenya Coast Guard Service to evacuate distressed families into the dead of the night.

KWS deployed a helicopter to aid in the uplifting victims in parts of Nyando.

Two days prior, the Seiya vented drift on Kisima - Wamba Road had also experienced flooding halting transport.

KeNHA has continually advised road users to exercise patience whenever roads are flooded to avert the risk of being swept away by raging waters.

Meanwhile, the National El Nino Emergency and Disaster Response Command has advsed Kenyans to dial toll-free line 0800-721-571 for prompt assistance in case of any flooding emergency.
