The Kenya Film School is open for application, the Ministry of Youth through Talanta Hela has announced.

The talent-based institution aims to give opportunities to youth with a passion for audio-visual production to grow and develop their talent.

To apply, interested persons have been urged to collect and complete application forms at the school campus at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

The forms can also be collected at the Department of Film Service (DFS) regional offices in Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kisii, Nakuru, Embu, Garissa and Mombasa.

Additionally, the Ministry said the forms can be downloaded on www.kenyafilmschool.go.ke or www.youth.go.ke.

"Application deadline is on May 28, 2024," the Ministry stated in its communication in My Gov on May 7.

The school offers courses including directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, video editing and sound engineering.

According to the school website, students are considered for talent and achievement-based admission through a departmental review of their portfolio and personal statement.

"Students must demonstrate talent and specific ability, task commitment and creativity. The student submits a creation that demonstrates one's appreciation for the visual or performing arts or illustrates the role of art in creating positive social change," KFS states.

The requirements for intake for the one-year certificate course in film production include a KCSE Certificate Mean Grade C Plain and below, a birth certificate or ID Card and evidence of Film production or work done recently, including evidence of the role undertaken in the production.

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 25 years. They should present a letter of recommendation from a referee who can attest to their suitability on a talent basis.

"Membership in any film youth group or association will be an added advantage," the school added.

KFS noted that after interviews, it will retain the evidence submitted.
